America’s Veterans & the B.P.O.E. Patriotism

Our Lodge played an active role in the programs setup by the Elks War Commission.  The recruiting program helped secure enlistment in the Sea Bees and the Air Force.  Selling War Bonds, collecting books for the Merchant Marines, and annual contributions to the Elks War Commission are a few of the other programs our Lodge participated in during the years 1942 through 1945.

Each member of our Lodge who entered the Armed Services was honored with a farewell party.  Christmas boxes and other gifts were sent to our service members each year.  PER C. S. Brubaker published a Service  Bulletin.

Our Lodge provided entertainment to both the Officers and enlisted personnel when the U.S. Army Postal School was established at the West Chester Teachers College. Now West Chester University of Pennsylvania.

The Elks War Commission acknowledged our patriotic contribution to the war effort by presenting an Award of Merit to our Lodge.  Two members, PER George M. Kirk and PER Claude S. Brubaker were presented individual Awards of Merit, in recognition of the parts they played in carrying out the Elks War Program.
